Over the weekend, Ghana welcomed officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as they carried out inspections at the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums. The visit, coordinated by the Ministry of Sports, was aimed at confirming Ghana’s ability to host upcoming international matches on home soil, a step crucial to avoiding potential embarrassment.

Initial reports following the inspection indicate that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Ghana and Sudan, scheduled for Matchday 3, will be held at the Cape Coast Stadium. The game is slated for Friday, October 11, marking a pivotal moment for the Black Stars, who are eager to secure their first win in the competition. After the home clash, the team will travel to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
Currently, the Black Stars’ pursuit of a fifth continental crown has been less than promising. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium and managed only a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. These results have left Ghana in third place in Group F, with just one point from two matches.
Despite the team’s struggles, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Seth Panwum have confidently assured fans and stakeholders that the match against Sudan will take place in Ghana as planned, following discussions with a Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports. All eyes will be on Cape Coast as the Black Stars look to turn their fortunes around.
