Ghanaian athlete, Grace Mintah has made history as the first African to win gold at the World Armwrestling Championship in Moldova.
She defeated her opponents from Germany, Turkey, Sweden and Ukraine in the women’s 80kg category to grab the coveted gold medal.
The packed arena erupted in elation as she pinned her opponent to win Ghana’s first gold medal at this year’s games.

Mintah first gained global experience at the 2023 World Combat Game in Saudi Arabia but failed to reach the medal zone.
However, she bounced back quickly to win two gold medals at the 2023 African Games hosted in Accra this year, and also won back-to-back gold at the African Championship.
The now world-champion in a media interview said “this is a dream come true,” and thanked her family, coaches, the president of the Ghana Armwrestling Frederation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, and the Ghana Police Service for their continuous support.

Mintah, also a police officer, added that the gold medal is just the beginning of something great as a world champion.
The Golden Arms of Ghana went to the games ranked 19th in the world and 2nd in Africa, with hopes of clinching their first-ever World Championship medal, following their success at the 13th African Games in Accra, where they won 41 medals.
