Girl, 6, almost sold by Uncle for 150,000 Ghana Cedis

A 43-year-old father of three, Nana Kofi Amofah has been arrested for attempting to sell his 6-six-year old niece just outside the capital by the Intelligence Unit of the Kasoa Police Service.

Amofah reportedly placed a price of GHS 150,000 on the young girl with plans of using the money generated from the transaction to secure a Canadian VISA.

Under the guise of bringing the girl to the city for better opportunities and education, he convinced his brother to allow him take his child all the way from Akyem Ayirebi in the Eastern Region.

A man close to Amofah reported him to the Kasoa police station after he learned about his ill motive to sell the child.

The police disguised themselves as people interested in buying the child and set up an undercover team to meet up with the suspect to finalize the transaction.

Amofah refused to bargain with the undercover police team on the price, maintaining and willing to only accept his first asking price of GHS 150,000.

He was later heard on tape telling the girl that the disguised police, her new dad will take care of her education.

The police took the six-year-old girl away and arrested him.
