GIS chief pledges support to police for peaceful 2024 elections

At a recent national election security task force meeting, Kwame Asuah Takyi, the Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration service, (GIS) pledged the full support of his personnel for collaborating with the Ghana Police Service. The goal is to ensure a peaceful electoral process in 2024. The importance of security agencies in preserving the integrity of elections was emphasized, with a spotlight on the upcoming district assembly elections as a vital practice run for the larger-scale 2024 elections.

The IGP, while addressing the assembly, reassured everyone of the commitment of security agencies, GIS, and other relevant bodies to maintain peace during the 2024 elections. This commitment underlines the tradition of peaceful elections in Ghana. Additionally, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Chief of Defense Staff, stated that the Ghana Armed Forces are prepared to provide essential support to the Police and other security agencies, despite not playing a direct role in election security.

As the meeting continued, Vice Admiral Amoama outlined the Armed Forces’ role in the 2024 elections. They would be in the background, offering support to the Police and other security services, ready to act when called upon, always aligning with constitutional mandates. Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, expressed her gratitude to the security agencies for their consistent support during elections.
