Ghanaian musician Guru, also known as Maradona Adjei Yeboah, and two other candidates, Lawrence Edinam Egleh and Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, have been disqualified from the University of Ghana’s Students’ Representative Council (UGSRC) presidential election.
The reason? They don’t live in a university hall of residence, violating Article 30 (1)(a) of the UGSRC Constitution.
This leaves three pairs of candidates in the running: Emmanuel Mensah & Justice Mbawin Abugri, Nii Afoley Odai & Abigail Ohenewaa Addai, and Blessing Mantey & Martin Agbefia.
The UGSRC Electoral Commission says it is committed to a transparent election process and enforcing the eligibility criteria to ensure candidates have a direct connection to the student body they hope to represent.
The Commission further added that it will ensure campaign activities follow regulations, and voters will have the chance to hear from the remaining candidates and choose their preferred leaders.
