John Peter Amewu, Hohoe’s MP, has been denied a delay for a court ruling on an election petition about the disenfranchisement of SALL residents in the 2020 elections by the High Court in Ho. The ruling was set to be delivered by Justice Owoahene Acheampong on December 21, 2023, but was interrupted by a motion from Amewu’s lawyer seeking to halt the judgment.

The case was initially pushed to January 9, 2024, for Amewu’s lawyer to present the motion. However, a twist occurred when Tsatsu Tsikata, leading the petitioners’ lawyers, filed an application to withdraw the original motion for judgment based on admissions by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The court dismissed Amewu’s motion and granted Tsikata’s application to withdraw the motion due to the EC’s lawyer’s absence. Despite the desire for a quick trial, Tsikata argued that justice would be better served with the EC present, leading both parties to urge for an adjournment to accommodate the EC.
