A 20-year-old interior decorator, Pearl Agbomadzi, has been charged with murder following the death of her 74-year-old British partner, John Scott Hughes, who was residing in Ghana. Reports indicate that Hughes had invited Pearl to meet him on August 2, 2024, at American House in East Legon, after which they proceeded to Philipo’s Movie House, a popular entertainment venue.
Later, Hughes reportedly booked a private room where the two engaged in a consensual intimate encounter after watching a pornographic movie. During their encounter, Hughes became unresponsive, prompting Pearl to seek help from the hotel staff.
Upon notifying the police, Hughes was transported to the hospital, where he was declared dead by medical personnel. The complainant in the case is identified as Hughes’ wife. During a High Court hearing on October 24, 2024, the accused’s lawyer, John Baptist Ayedze, petitioned for her release on bail, which the presiding judge, Lydia Sei Marfo, granted at GHC 100,000 with one surety.
