A 27-year-old porter Alex Abubakari was sentenced to 15 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing Togolese trader Kofi Ametepe.
Abubakari admitted to causing harm and robbery after hitting Ametepe’s head with a pavement block and then robbing him.
He stated during police questioning that he was extremely hungry and that led him to commit the crime.

Abubakari’s age and guilty plea were taken into account by the court, which was presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, while determining his sentence.
He was given a one-year term for causing hurt and a fifteen-year sentence for robbery, both of which were to be served consecutively with hard labor.
Additionally, the court mandated that the victim receive any recovered stolen property.
The prosecution’s chief inspector, Jonas Lawer, disclosed that Abubakari was a squatter at Afua Sutherland Park.
