La Tante DC-10: The story of Ghana's first airplane restaurant.

Ghana Airways went bankrupt in 2005, and the plane was confined at Heathrow Airport, London.

But the aircraft was brought back home and transformed into a restaurant called La Tante DC-10 in 2013.

The La Tante DC-10 Top 3 Thai Restaurants in Accra was popular with residents who have never flown and could accommodate up to 118 diners.

Business was booming with the then manager of the restaurant, Indira Shiram, quoted by the BBC as saying “attendance is very impressive.”

“At first, people wanted to have a feel of a restaurant in a plane but surprisingly they keep coming. Many locals get their first taste of what it’s like to travel on an aeroplane, with several never having flown before.

“The tail fin is painted in the Ghanaian flag, and is known as the Green Plane locally,” she added.”

However, before the restaurant could mark a decade of providing exquisite service to people living in Accra, things went sour.

La Tante DC-10’s reputation as a distinctive eating experience persisted even after it had been in flying for 25 years.

Although it closed down, the customers that came through still had fond memories of the establishment.

The plane was finally towed away in September, 2023, marking the death of La Tante DC-10.
