Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has disclosed government’s ongoing plans to secure additional funds towards completing affordable housing projects in Accra.
Speaking to the media yesterday during the commissioning of 320 new housing units for Ghana Police Officers in Tesano, Accra, the minister said the projects set to be completed will include the stalled Adenta SHC Project and the abandoned Saglemi affordable housing project.
He added that government is also “fast-tracking works on ongoing projects,” and that “currently infrastructure works on drainage and road networks have advanced and work on some of the foundations, and blocks have advanced in Pokuase.”
In less than four months, he said, work on the 150 new homes being constructed by the National Home Ownership Fund has already exceeded 50 percent since its commencement.

The state in 2012 secured a $200 million loan for the construction of 5,000 housing units at Saglemi, a community near Sege in the Greater Accra Region.
However, the project was abandoned at different stages with encroachers taking over the 1,506 housing units built.
The Ministry of Works and Housing called on private investors to submit proposals to assist in completing the project between April 17, 2024 and July 8, 2024 and evaluation on July 9, 2024.
The contract is expected to be signed on August 30, 2024 to facilitate the beginning of the project completion.
With houses being overly expensive and landlords demanding two years advance payment for rent in Accra, the affordable housing project is expected to be a relief for residents to afford decent homes in the capital.
