Madina market reconstruction begins in Accra after fire incident.

Reconstruction of parts of the Madina market in Accra which was ravaged by fire has started.

This comes after the impacted traders were successfully relocated to the parking lot so that construction can start on September 1.

The Municipal Assembly had given them until August 31 to leave the area.

120 stores, 78 smaller shops, fire tender base, revenue offices, banking spaces, sanitation and handicap ramps, and restrooms would all be housed in the new building, which is scheduled to be finished in three months.

AMMA Integrated Construction is working on the project, and FeDems is providing consulting services.

The main Madina market in the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly was enfulfed by fire for about four hours from 9pm to almost 1am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

A week later,  Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited the market and donated GHS200,000 to the victims of the fire outbreak.

He also announced plans to construct a three-storey 120-store facility to replace the burnt market.

Contractors have started working to meet the three months deadline for the completion of the 120-store market.
