Ghana’s capital, Accra is not left out in the global fight against two of the world’s most dangerous phenomena threatening the very existence of the human race – climate change and global warming.
At the center of the world is some 12 youth-led projects committed to the fight and doing the their very best to ensure the bustling city never goes to ‘sleep.’
These projects are youth- managed recycling and waste reduction programmes, Ассrа community municipal solid waste (MSW) source separation at Jamestown, integrating climate change education in local governance and development, the plastic footprint reduction project (PFRP) as well as mangrove restoration for coastal protection and urban greening.
The rest are Sustainable climate financing initiatives, Green future wareness and education campaign, Project Ecomakola, Clean Accra, source separation of waste, Green Ambassadors programme, Empowering youth in climate resilience and climate preparedness, and Youth Eco Power project.

The 12 projects led and managed by teeming youth in the capital have all been selected by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to receive refunding under the Accra Youth Climate Change Action Fund (AYCAF).
AYCAF was launched back in April this year by the Mayor of Accra, Honorable Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, to empower the youth of Accra to engage in climate action and sustainability projects.
The fund supported by Bloomberg Philantropies, forms part of the city’s dedication championed by various youth groups on climate action.
