Dutch football star Memphis Depay, in collaboration with Nii Gonti Adjor I (CEO of The Gym/Omashi TV), Box Office Promotions, and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), organized a Juvenile and Amateur Boxing Tournament at the Old Kingsway Building, Ussher Town, on Friday. The event attracted a large and enthusiastic crowd.

Among the distinguished attendees were presidential aspirant Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, Alhaji Dauda Fuseni (First Vice President of the GBF), and Solomon Otoo (Second Vice President of the GBF). They all praised the initiative and expressed their commitment to supporting grassroots boxing in Ghana.
Depay, who now plays for Corinthians in Brazil, served as the event’s star guest. He presented medals and certificates to all participants and announced plans to donate boxing equipment to Ghana in the near future.
Cheddar, who placed third in Ghana’s recent presidential elections, commended the young boxers, calling them future champions. Alhaji Dauda Fuseni and Alex Ntiamoah Boakye of Box Office Promotions echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need to build a strong foundation for juvenile and amateur boxing to develop future international stars.
The tournament, dubbed “Memphis Depay Fight Day,” showcased some of the best young talents in Accra. Notable juvenile boxers included Nii Tettey Quaye, Joseph Nartey, Austin Ansah, Rashid Amu, Michael Quaye, Godfred Nunoo, Eric Vorsah, Blessing Lartey, and Lydia Lartey.
Youth boxers like Nii Moi Allotey, Joseph Salifu, William Laryea, and Ibrahim Doku also impressed the audience. The elite boxers featured Mubarak Amarh, Bernard Kotey, Stephen Armah (Attoh Kwashie Gym), Nelleys Dodoo (Sea View Gym), Precious Nartey (Attoh Kwashie Gym), and Robert Lokko (The Gym).
The event highlighted the potential of Ghana’s young boxers, reinforcing the importance of investing in grassroots talent to nurture the next generation of champions.
