The Concerned Citizens of the Komenda Traditional Area have announced the new date for the rescheduled demonstration against the lease of the Komenda Sugar Factory to an Indian firm.
The protest was initially planned for August 13, 2024, in Komenda, but the organisers postponed and moved to it to the capital.

In a statement notifying the police of the demonstrations in accordance with Section 1 clause 1 of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), the organisers have confirmed the new date for the planned protest as Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in Accra.

The protesters want the facility to go back to processing sugarcane that is grown locally rather than importing raw sugar, and they want the leasing arrangement to be reversed.
They contend that appropriate procedural observance and stakeholder consultation were lacking in the creation of the lease agreement.
The protest is scheduled to begin at 6:00 am from the 37 Lorry Station in Accra and go to the Jubilee House.
The organisers anticipate at least 5,000 concerned Ghanaians from Accra and the surrounding areas to take part.

The group has asked the police to supply the assistance and protection needed to guarantee the demonstration is conducted peacefully.
