The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has secured court application against the upcoming seven day demonstration by PTAAM-GH , ARISE GHANA, ASEPA and Others CSOs.

The Police said their decision to injunct the demonstration is because it will compromise public safety if allowed in its current form.

The planned protest was scheduled to come off from Wednesday July 31, to Tuesday, August 6, 2024 with an estimated two million youth expected to turn up, according to the organizers.

Organizers of the protest on June 18, sent a notice to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander of their intentions to protest based on three main reasons.

“Government failure to tackle corruption, fix the economy and the President Akufo-Addo’s refusal to sign the Sexual and Ghanaian Family Values Bills into law.”

The protest also aimed to challenge the heavy taxes imposed by the government including the controversial betting tax, sanitation tax, COVID-19 tax and increased internet data prices.

Speaking on Class FM’s 505 Show this evening, Executive Secretary of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson disclosed that one of the organizers, Bernard Mornah “was tracked to Pan-African Television when he was having a program” and the injunction application was served to him at the premises.
