Some residents along the Accra-Tema motorway last night blocked both sections of the road as a protest leading to heavy traffic on the highway.
As at 10pm, drivers were still stranded on the road into the capital’s industrial hub, with some finding alternative routes to get past the angry protesters.
The reason for the protest and blockade, according to an eye witness, was because a car hit a young girl on the stretch and ran away.
The eye witness explained that the driver failed to stop, and the girl was subsequently run over by another car.
Enraged by this some local residents blocked both stretches of the road to protest.
The protest continued deep into the night with the some drivers stranded on the road later joining.

Some drivers expressed their dismay over the poor state of the road.
Others criticized government for neglecting a major road in the capital for years despite many promises to renovate the industrial highway.
The girl’s condition was unknown as at the time of the protest.
