In a joint press release, the Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana have announced that starting on March 7, 2024, there will be a 30% increase in transport charges. They made this decision due to the government’s failure to address their concerns, specifically regarding the impact of rising fuel prices on their operational costs.

Expressing disappointment in the leadership, the two organizations emphasized the urgent need for fare adjustments to align with the increasing costs of fuel. The continuous rise in fuel prices has had a significant negative impact on the livelihoods of drivers, leading to financial strain and challenges in running their businesses. The organizations are calling on the government and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with their leaders to address the challenges faced by the transportation sector and implement fare adjustments that reflect the current economic realities. If these concerns are not addressed by March 6, 2024, the organizations warn that they will have no choice but to proceed with the fare increases.
