Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, has voiced his approval for the contentious anti-LGBTQ bill, stating that its implementation would be beneficial for Ghana. During a Starr Chat interview with Bola Ray, he clarified that his concern isn’t about personal choices made in private, but rather the perceived influence of these behaviors on Ghana’s youth.
George argues that the bill’s purpose is to uphold family values and individual privacy. He explains that if someone is accused of violating the bill, it wouldn’t be based on assumptions. Instead, the accuser would need to prove their case in a court of law. The bill also addresses assault, with penalties of up to three years imprisonment for those found guilty of wrongful verbal or physical assault.

George insists his interest in the bill isn’t about intruding on personal lives. His primary concern is the introduction of private matters into Ghana’s education system. He questions the appropriateness of exposing children to these issues in school. The proposed law aims to ban LGBTQ+ activities, criminalize their promotion, and provide protection for children and individuals affected by or accused of participating in LGBTQ+ activities.
