A young Ghanaian teacher, Joshua Adu Guni, has lost about GHS27,000 including his father’s medical bills to betting.
Speaking to blogger Zion Felix, Guni, who is a also a digital satellite installer, said he begun betting back in 2019 when he was still a student.
He said a friend first introduced him to casino betting in 2019 and later to roulette in 2020.

“He didn’t really teach me, but he used my phone to bet and gave me money when he won which caught my attention.”
He stated that he quit school at Ideal College after he lost GHS7,000 from selling plumbing materials belonging to his uncle, who was then sponsoring his education.
“My uncle asked me to sell his plumbing materials. After I sold them I got GHS7,000 and I went to give him the money but he wasn’t around.
“Three days later, I started using the money to gamble bit by bit. By the time I realise it was finished.”

He also revealed that he used GHS15,000 meant for his father’s medical bills, and his mother’s GHS5,000 to bet.
Guni said he even sometimes used customers’ money to bet and has sold his phone a number of times just to bet.
He acknowledged that it not easy to break free from betting addiction and is ready to accept any help that comes his way.
“I will be very happy if someone wants to help me, if there is a rehab and the person wants to take me there.
“I am fully devoted, even if it’s right now I don’t have a problem. I am ready to stop,” he said.

He advised to youth to stay away from betting.
