Good news for dog owners as there are set to be free rabies vaccinations for dogs in Tema this month.
This free rabies vaccination program is an initiative of the Tema Metropolitan Office of the Veterinary Services to mark this year’s World Rabies Day celebrations.
The office together with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and CERMES foundation would organise the exercise as part of efforts to raise awareness and contribute to rabies elimination worldwide.

The free anti-rabies vaccination exercise will be held on Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the Tema Metropolis.
However, before this date, there would be an awareness creation campaign on rabies control and prevention from Monday, September 23, to Thursday, September 26, 2024, in selected basic schools in the Tema Metropolis.
This, the Tema Metropolitan Veterinary Officer, Dr Emmanuel Pecku, told the Ghana News Agency that was essential because children under the age of 15 are the most vulnerable to dog bites and dog-mediated rabies cases.
The 2024 World Rabies Day falls on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and is on the theme “Breaking Rabies Boundaries.”
Non-governmental organisation, Computer Education and Research in Medical Science (CERMES) foundation are funding the free vaccination exercise.
