Earlier reports suggested that the fire service personnel came to the seen without their fire tender to deal with the spreading fire.
However, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have denied such reports as inaccurate and misleading.
Responding to criticisms on social media, GNFS said the personnel who were allegedly assaulted came to assess the situation because their fire truck had gone for refill after they had dealt with another fire just behind the house on fire.
“The firefighters had finished extinguishing a fire behind this gutted building and their fire truck which had ran out of water had gone for replenishment.
“The remaining firefighters came over to assess the situation upon being alerted that the fire had spread into this building. Hurriedly, the Officer in charge who was assaulted called for reinforcement while waiting for their fire truck also to tackle this new fire situation.
“In the process of them waiting for help to arrive, the irate residents felt they could insult and assault them for no reason.”
