The broken elevator at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s (KBTH) Department of Surgery has been fixed quickly.
Hours after Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, gave a 24-hour ultimatum, the lift was fixed.
Through a Facebook post, the hospital’s management confirmed that the lift had been successfully repaired and that it is now fully operational.

This repair follows Akandoh’s recent visit to the hospital, during which he voiced concerns regarding the lift’s state of disrepair and its potential to negatively affect the facility’s capacity to perform urgent surgeries.
The ranking member was stopped after he made an effort to clarify to the authorities that the purpose of his visit was facility inspection and verification of claims that the hospital had halted emergency surgery in the surgical department because of a lift that wasn’t working properly.
He later spoke to media after the confrontation with management of the hospital and gave the hospital a 24-hour ultimatum to fix the faulty elevator.

“It is rather unfortunate and therefore I am calling on the government, the Minister responsible for health, they cannot suspend surgeries indefinitely. Within the next 24 hours, we must see the end of this unconscionable behaviour. We cannot accept that reason,” he noted.
