Andre Ayew, the captain of Ghana’s Black Stars, has recently matched the legendary Rigobert Song’s record for the highest number of appearances in the history of the African Cup of Nations.

Ayew, who initially debuted for the Black Stars in 2007 and entered the AFCON stage in 2008, achieved this milestone by coming off the bench. His impressive AFCON journey includes scoring in six tournaments and participating in a total of eight competitions, making him Ghana’s top goal-scorer in the AFCON events.

Both Andre Ayew and Rigobert Song, hailing from Ghana and Cameroon, respectively, share the distinction of playing 36 games in the African Cup of Nations, marking a historic feat for the tournament.

As Ayew approaches what could potentially be his final appearance in the tournament, there’s a chance he may not have another opportunity to claim the record for the player with the most appearances.
