The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema branch in Ghana organised the first national competition on memorisation of the Hadiths (sayings and deeds) of the Holy Prophet of Islam over the weekend.
The competition which happened in Accra, on Saturday, highlighted the need for Muslims to study the “religious sayings and deeds” of the Holy Prophet of Islam, to serve as a moral compass in their lives both in this world and the hereafter.
Speaking at the competition, Chairman of the Ghana branch of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema, Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim said the competition aimed to put the Hadiths in context so that Ghanaians can better understand Islam and to teach Islamic scholars and students the value of memorisation.
A team of judges led by Islamic scholar Dr. Abass Sakhar evaluated the 26 competitors on their competency and momerisation skills.

At the end of the competition, Mardiya Abass, won the first category which examined the contestants in their proficiency in memorising 40 Hadiths without naming their narrators nor explaining their meanings.
Bashir Abdallah and Fatimatu Abdul Kareem were first and second runners up respectively in that category.
Abdallah Alhassan won the second category on memorising 30 Hadiths and mentioning the names of the narrators from whom the chains of narrations begun, whiles Sa’adah Mohammed Salis and Umar Abdul-Wadud grabbed second and third places.
Mohammed Sani Mohammed and Abdallah Mohammed Sakib came second and third respectively, and Mohammed Kamal emerged winner of the third category on proficiency in memorising 20 Hadiths-based Islamic rulings, explaining each Hadiths in various branches.

Ghana will be represented by the three category winners at the Africa-wide grand finale, which will take place either in person in Morocco or by Zoom at a later date to be confirmed.
The guest of honour, National Chief Imam, Sheikh (Dr) Nuhu Osman Sharubutu, presented certificates, cash prizes and Islamic literature to the nine winners.
