Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has announced his decision to step back from politics to prioritize humanitarian efforts. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan explained that he felt he hadn’t been fair to Ghana’s youth by being associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Gyan, who was previously involved in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, stated that he will no longer engage in partisan politics. Instead, he will focus on empowering the youth through his Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
“I haven’t been fair to the youth of Ghana. From now on, I am not affiliated with any political party. I will continue my humanitarian work and support the youth in my own way,” Gyan wrote.
Gyan, a national football icon and Ghana’s top scorer, has emphasized his commitment to non-political contributions as the country heads towards its next elections.
