An Executive Committee (EXCO) member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disclosed the reason why the association terminated its broadcast partnership deal with StarTimes.
The deal, according to Mr. Fred Acheampong, was cancelled due to outstanding monetary obligations.
He said the partnership agreement was discontinued with StarTimes because the Chinese Media company owed the GFA close to a million dollars.

“StarTimes owed the GFA close to one million dollars. The GFA had to find money from different avenues to settle the clubs with the ‘StarTimes money’ that the clubs were supposed to receive.
“This is the reason we couldn’t continue with StarTimes,” the EXCO member told the media.
StarTimes secured the rights to broadcast the Ghana Premier League and other leagues exclusively for four years in a deal worth $5.25 million back in 2020.
Last weekend, the Ghana Premier League was broadcasted on a number of free-to-air channels as the nation’s top flight league returned on matchday one after the long off-season break.
The free-to-air channels that broadcasted the matches were Metro TV, Net 2 TV, Original TV, AFA TV and Globe TV.
Sources say the GFA has reached an agreement with local broadcasting company, AFA Sports to broadcast the games live.
The first free-to-air live broadcasts was met with mixed reactions from fans and football loving people in the country.
Many called out the poor broadcast of the games and some questioned the quality of commentary being delivered over the weekend.
