Pastor Love, the ex-husband of Obaapa Christy, has formally appealed his four-year prison term.

According to reports from the Accra High Court, Pastor Love is demanding bail so that he can physically attend the appeal processes and take part in the case without being imprisoned.

Sources state that the court is anticipated to make a decision about the approval or denial of his request on Friday, November 15, 2024.

Pastor Love was convicted in October 2024 following a long legal battle over his friend’s car, which he sold without properly accounting for the money received.

In the 2017 case, Pastor Love was convicted of dishonesty, theft, and misappropriation.

Details of what happened

The complaint stemmed from a 2016 agreement between Samuel Amankwah, the complainant, and Pastor Love.

After Amankwah brought a Toyota Highlander into Ghana, he gave Pastor Love custody of the vehicle, asking him to get it through customs and promising to pay for it.

Amankwah later gave Pastor Love instructions to sell the vehicle for $50,000 after subtracting the clearance fees from the sale price.

Since he intended to travel to Ghana shortly, Amankwah changed his mind in April 2017 and chose to pay Pastor Love the clearance fees directly.

Despite his repeated demands, Amankwah found that Pastor Love had neither the car nor the money from its sale when he arrived.

Pastor Love eventually acknowledged selling the automobile without Amankwah’s approval after being arrested.

According to Pastor Love, he took out a GH¢40,000 loan to pay off the car, which was collecting interest. He then sold the car for GH¢80,000 to pay back the loan, allegedly sending the loan company GH¢70,000 in the process.

He was unable to identify the buyer, lead police to the lending company, or offer proof for these allegations, though.

Pastor Love made an appeal for mercy throughout the trial, emphasizing that he was a first-time offender and that he would be willing to pay a fine.
