The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees Association (GNMTA) is on the brink of protest, expressing deep concern over unpaid arrears. The Association asserts that the government has yet to make good on its promise to pay member allowances, a situation they find increasingly intolerable. This development was revealed in a statement issued by GNMTA’s National President, Adumbisa Pascal, and General Secretary, Blessing Ampofo.
In their statement, the GNMTA leaders shared that they had petitioned the Ministry of Health on November 25, 2023, about the outstanding arrears. Despite having received financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance for two years’ worth of arrears, the trainees have only received payment for two months. They describe this situation as deeply concerning, and their patience and tolerance are at their limits.

The Association’s statement further underscores the gravity of the situation, stating, “We demand immediate redress for this egregious injustice. The fate of nursing and midwifery in Ghana lies precariously in the balance, highlighting the indispensability of addressing this matter with the profound urgency and unwavering gravity it commands.” The GNMTA conveys their disappointment and sorrow, stating that their previous appeals and efforts have been in vain. They express feeling undervalued and profoundly wounded by the ongoing negligence of their rightful entitlements.
