Following two years of using a transitional calendar in which the school year stretched from January to December, the Ghana Education Service (GES) started the process last year, with the commencement of classes on October 3, 2023, to resume using the previous calendar.
The GES went back to the basic schools’ pre-COVID-19 academic timetable after the 2022 academic calendar ended.
Kindergarten (KG), primary and junior high school (JHS) pupils and students will now spend a total of 15 weeks for the first term, which officially starts on September 10, 2024, and ends on December 18, 2024, with vacation the following day, according to the newly released academic calendar.
The second term of the academic year will be another 15 weeks, and will resume on January 7, 2025, and last till Wednesday, April 16, 2025 with vacation the next day.
For the third term, schools will again reopen for 12 weeks from Tuesday, May 6, 2025, to July 24, 2025, to end the academic year.
