Boxing Legends kick off Gbese Mantse peace cup: A celebration of unity and sports

Boxing champions from the Bronx Gym, including Jacob Laryea (WBO Africa Super Welterweight champion), John Laryea (WBO Featherweight champion), Daniel Gosh (LBO and UBO Bantamweight champion), John Zile (UBO Super Bantamweight champion), and Sheriff Quaye (WBO Lightweight champion), attended the inauguration of the Gbese Mantse Peace Charity Cup Match.

Nii Ayi Bonte II, the Gbese Mantse and Adonten of the Ga State, initiated the match, with a trophy contested between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Heart of Lions at Accra Sports Stadium on August 11, 2024. The event’s media launch featured a kpanlogo battle between the Chapter 0 supporters’ jama group and the Ga Mashie Cultural troupe.

Nii Armah Opah II, representing the Gbese Mantse, called for unity and peace during the Homowo festivities and anticipated an exciting game. Dr. Ishmael Nii Amasa Dodoo emphasized the Ga people’s contribution to Ghana’s peace and development.

Mr. Sammy Anim Addo, CEO of the newly promoted Premiership Soccer Apostles, announced that colts teams would entertain fans from 10 am, followed by a match between the British High Commission and Nii Ayi Bonte XI. Ticket prices range from 5ghc for local communities to 200ghc for VVIP.

Representatives from Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions pledged to showcase new players and promote unity. Political figures Hon. Mannaf Sowah (NPP) and Hon. Alfred Ashie Kotey (NDC) attended, advocating for peace and promising to buy tickets for local fans.
