Team Ghana faced a disappointing end to their Olympic campaign after being disqualified from the 4x100m relay for a late baton change during Heat 2. The team’s baton change occurred outside the mandatory changeover zone, leading to the disqualification.
Speaking to the media, the team members expressed their thoughts on the setback. Joe Paul, one of the sprinters, acknowledged the challenging atmosphere in the stadium. “The stadium was really loud. Instead of using it as an advantage, I think it broke us in a way. We struggled to hear the calls, but we did our best in the circumstances,” he said.

Benjamin Azamati, another key runner, emphasized that despite the difficult conditions, the team accepts responsibility. “Overall, no excuses. It was not a better race from us. We know we can do better. We just have to perform better.”
Rasheed Saminu admitted to a miscommunication during the baton exchange. “I think I missed the hand of Azamati on the first call, so I brought it back, but there’s no excuse. We did our best, but it is what it is,” he said.
Finally, Ibrahim Fuseini described the race as the team’s “worst performance ever,” but vowed that they would return stronger.
