Ghana’s hopes in the 2023 AFCON tournament were shattered as they exited after a 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the final Group B match.

Jordan Ayew’s early penalty gave Ghana a promising lead, and another in the 70th minute solidified their advantage. However, Mozambique’s late-game penalties, courtesy of Geny Catamo and Reinildo Mandava, dashed Ghana’s dreams of advancing.

The draw marked Ghana’s inability to secure a win in the 2024 tournament, following a 1-2 loss to Cape Verde and a previous draw with Egypt. Now, Ghana awaits the outcome of ongoing group play to determine if they qualify for the knockout stage as one of the top four third-ranked teams.

Ghana’s quest for a continental title continues, with their last triumph dating back to 1982. Meanwhile, Cape Verde tops Group B with seven points after a 2-2 draw with Egypt, securing a spot in the knockout round alongside Egypt, who finished second with three points.
