Gospel is not a genre – Richie Mensah

The chief executive officer (CEO) of Lynx Entertainment, Richie Mensah, has said that gospel is not a genre of music but content.

He made this bold claim last night at the launch of his record label’s newest initiative dubbed “Live The Music” at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

During the question and answer session, the Lynx Entertainment CEO said that gospel music is more of content rather than a genre in response to a question asked last night.

“So I would like to clarify something, it’s been a misconception for a long time. I know I will be attacked for this but gospel is not a genre. Gospel is content,” he said.

Adding that “so if Richie sings a gospel song, it’s a gospel song. It’s not a genre.”

Touching on whether the albums and extended plays (EPs) on the “Live The Music” would include the gospel music fraternity, Richie said the albums will have some gospel songs on there but will not be solely dedicated to gospel music.

“When we say we are doing an album, we don’t need to do a gospel album. We can have a gospel song on an album.

“I always feel when we separate things like that, we rather make things unfair. So we leave it open because if you say you are doing a gospel project, then someone will also say why aren’t you doing this or that kind of project.

“So you make it something that everybody can a piece of it, that is when you get a real collaboration.”
