Guru wins University of Ghana SRC presidential elections

No rest for Guru as level 200 student sues University of Ghana for reinstating musician in SRC elections.

Ghanaian musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru NKZ, has won the University of Ghana (UG) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) elections held today.

Guru and his running mate Jeffery Adu-Yeboah, had 9456 of the total 18659 total votes cast, representing 50.7 percent.

Their closest competitors, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah and his running mate Lawrence Edinam Agleh received 6644 votes, representing 35.6 percent of the total votes cast.

None of the other three contestants in the presidential race were able to accumulate 10 percent of the total votes cast today.

In the race for the other positions, Lorinda Owie Teyehumgah won the General Secretary position with 46.7 percent votes, having received 8713 votes of the total 18659 votes cast.

Roland Oppong also won the contest for the Treasurer after accumulating 9092, just 5.2 percent more votes of the 43.5 percent second placed Jonathan Kankam had with 8120 votes.

Meanwhile, a second-year University of Ghana (UG) Bachelor of Arts student named Asioh Joseph Mawuli has filed a lawsuit against the university’s administration over the elections for the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Guru had previously been disqualified from the presidential contest and had filed a petition against the SRC Electoral Commission, which he won.
