In a significant move by the General Legal Council, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh has been removed from the Roll of Lawyers in Ghana. This decision came after revelations that he received GHC 400,000.00 from businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome. The action was taken following a ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council, as confirmed in a notice issued on January 31st, 2024.

The notice outlined the charges against the Chief State Attorney, who is part of the Attorney-General’s office, and shed light on the specifics of the case involving Alfred Agbesi Woyome vs. Attorney General & Anor. It was found that Nerquaye-Tetteh was involved in the questionable transfer of GHC 400,000.00 to his wife’s bank account, an act considered damaging to the legal profession’s reputation. Consequently, he has been barred from presenting himself as a lawyer or engaging in any legal practice, effective immediately. This step taken by the council, as announced by Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng JA, the Judicial Secretary, reaffirms the legal fraternity’s dedication to upholding ethical standards and public confidence in the justice system.
