The Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) staged a protest today at the premises of the GIFF in Tema to demand better trading conditions and raise awareness of unfair fees and practices imposed by shipping lines at the various ports.
Backed by Freight Forwarders Association of Ghana, Customs Brokers Association of Ghana, Association of Customs House Agents of Ghana, and other trade associations, the protest was to stand against what the groups described as exploitation by shipping lines in Ghana.
The protest seeks to highlight hidden fees frequently levied on members of the shipping community, which have created significant financial burdens for those involved in cargo operations.
This, the group, said is having a negative impact on Ghana’s economy since it is affecting the trading and logistics sectors.
The Vice Chairman of GIFF, Nana Asiamah Peprah, noted that this also has crippling effects on the shipping industry’s future in the country.
“This demonstration has significant implications for the country’s economy and the future of Ghana’s shipping industry.”
The demonstrators mainly dressed in red branded t-shirts, held placards with #PutShippingLinesInLine boldly written on them.
