Residents of Mangoline are living in fear over constant attacks and threats by landguards posing as Asafo groups to demand “developmental fees” from them.
Residents say the activities of the landguards is terrorizing and threatening to their lives in the community.
News broke not long ago about how a three-year old and entire family were slashed with a knife after refusing to pay what was then tagged as digging fee by the landguards.
They have recently added tiling and roofing fees as part of the “developmental fees.”
This, one resident said, was absurd because they are developing their properties by themselves.
According to residents, the police in the area lack the needed resources to fight the crime.
“The logistics for the police to fight crime in this area is not there. They don’t have a running car to fight crime,” one resident told CitiNews.
He added that sometimes residents are forced to hire taxis to bring the police to the area to fight crime.
However, two of the landguards have been arrested with others on the run.
