The Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Ghana has announced that it will be embarking on a nationwide indefinite strike starting Friday, September 20, 2024.
TEWU said all its member in the Public and Technical Universities are joining the Senior Staff-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) on the industrial action effective tomorrow.

The union said the indefinite strike action has become necessary due to the failure of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to implement the negotiated and approved Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus allowances even though the Ministry of Finance had approved it on August 2, 2024.
They further stated that government’s unfulfilled promises to recalculate members’ Tier Two pension and pay interest accrued from delayed deductions from unions scheme January from 2010 to 2016 has necessitated the indefinite strike action.
Additionally, the union said that government owes them eight months pension deductions that were not remitted into the union’s scheme.

The SSA-UoG has been on strike since Monday, stating dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to uphold prior agreements.
Checks by MyAccraonline today at the University of Media, Arts and Communication -Ghana Institute of Journalism campus revealed that the school’s library has been closed due to the announced strike action.

The strike action is expected to affect public and technical universities in the country.
