How taxi driver was jailed for life after murdering his girlfriend

Paul Evename, a 35-year-old taxi driver, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, Jennifer Atieku, a 20-year-old student from UPSA. The unanimous 7-0 jury verdict found him guilty of intentionally killing Jennifer after she threatened to end their relationship. The case drew widespread attention, with EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, reporting on the conviction and sentencing proceedings.

Before his sentencing, Evename accepted the jury’s verdict and apologized to both families, expressing remorse for his actions. He acknowledged that he had wronged and disappointed everyone involved and asked for their forgiveness.

However, he requested the court to delay his sentencing, citing a wound on his body that required time to heal. Despite his plea, the court proceeded with the life sentence following his acceptance of guilt.
