CAF has withdrawn approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ghana, citing technical issues, particularly an unsuitable playing field. The decision came after the AFCON qualifier between Ghana and Angola on September 5th, 2024, during which CAF observed significant problems with the stadium’s pitch.

The playing field was reported to be in poor condition, with uneven surfaces, inadequate grass cover, and poor drainage, making it unfit for competitive international matches. CAF had previously raised concerns about the stadium’s suitability for top-tier events, and these issues were not resolved.

With no CAF-approved Category 3 stadiums available in Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been asked to select alternative venues outside the country for upcoming AFCON qualifiers. CAF has also advised that a full refurbishment be undertaken to meet international standards, offering support through expert guidance to restore the stadium.
