WISA 2024 Awards – who are the 31 winners?

The Women In Sports Association (WISA) has unveiled the list of honorees for its 2024 Awards, a flagship event proudly sponsored by Ghandour Cosmetics. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

WISA President, Madam Gloria Commodore, shared that this year’s event will celebrate 31 individuals and several organizations for their contributions to sports. The awardees represent a diverse range of disciplines, from fencing and hockey to athletics and journalism.

Notable honorees include:
– Kelsey Woname (Fencing, U.K. and Ghana)
– Lawrencia Okailey Okine (Hockey, Ghana National Fire Service)
– Hagar Oboshie Laryea (Hockey, Ghana Prison Service)
– Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Deputy Director General, Ghana Prison Service)
– Betty Dzima(Secretary to the Director General, National Sports Authority)
– Perpetual Naa Ayikailey Okaijah (Mixed Martial Arts/Boxing)
– Vida Baffowaa and Janet Mensah (Athletics, Sagnation Club)
– Aniela Allotey (Sports Journalist, TV3)
– Naceera Afua Quansah (Athletics)
– Abigail Twumasiwaa Okanta (Football Supporter, Achievers S.U.)
– Rashida Iddi (Ghana Supporters Union)
– Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah (High Jump, International)
– Wendy Naa Deide Sampah (Sports Journalist, HSTV)
– Adzi Rejoice Awurabena (Sports Journalist, HSTV)

Additional awardees include notable sports journalists, security personnel, and corporate organizations like Ghandour Cosmetics, which has been the headline sponsor of the event for the past six years.

Madam Commodore expressed her satisfaction with the progress made over the past decade, highlighting that many past awardees have gone on to excel in their respective fields. She also mentioned that several past winners will be present to support this year’s ceremony.

The event promises to be a significant celebration of women in sports, continuing WISA’s mission to encourage and motivate female athletes and sports professionals.
