The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo yesterday commissioned the new Jamestown Fishing Harbour in Accra.
The ultra-modern facility is expected to provide around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs for the youth in the Ga community.
However, this is not certain as no one can actually ascertain if all the available vacancies would be made open for Ga youth.

This, the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II stepped in to clarify during the commissioning when made a plea to the government to set aside a certain number of slots for for Ga youth employment in the Jamestown Fishing Harbour facility.
“I stand also as the voice of the Ga Dangbe Youth whose heritage is rooted in this land waters. I appeal to the Ministry of Transportation to ensure that a quota is allocated for the benefit of our young people.
“They must not be observers of this commercial and major transformation. They deserve a seat at the table to benefit and to thrive,” the Ga Mantse said.
On his part, President Akufo-Addo said the new facility will certainly transform the lives of the people in the community.
“It will create jobs, empower the economy and revitalise the lives of the fisherfolk and traders of Jamestown. We will inject new energies into the heart of this community. I have no doubt that its benefits will ripple across the nation.”

The new Jamestown Fishing Harbour also includes a crèche, police and fire station, cold storage unit and a fish processing centre.
