The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, has revealed that following the closure of the security services recruitment portals on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, around 90,000 people have applied to join Ghana’s security services.
Many of the applicants for the recruitment campaign, which was launched on August 7, 2024 by the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and Ghana Immigration Service, had previously shown their desire in joining these services in 2021.

“As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications. That is the report I received from the security agencies handling the recruitment,” he said.
However, speaking on Accra-based JoyFM, the minister said, there are only 12,000 available slots into the various security services.
The 12,000 slots, he said, was what the approved budget by Parliament can recruit.
“But bear in mind that Parliament has approved a budget a budget so there is an intake that the agencies will have to do and I don’t think that its going to go beyond maybe 12,000 or so.
“So all this 80,000, its up to the security agencies to use their eligibility criteria to be able to select who qualifies to actually be admitted.”
