About 300 young talented tennis players participated in the 8th edition of the G.T Oddoye Memorial Junior Tennis Championship which ended on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club (ALTC).
The 2024 tournament witnessed impressive display of tennis in U-10, U-12, U-14 and U-19 categories by youth from Accra, Ashaiman, Tema, Techiman, Takoradi, Winneba and Akropong-Akuapim.

Stephen Boateng of Tema defeated Solomon Dowuona of the Stadium Club in Accra 4-2,2-4,4-2 to win the boys U-10 Singles competition. Georgette Okyere of Winneba won the category with a 5-3,5-3 victory against Helen Adjei of the Korle-Bu Club.
In the boys’ and girls’ U-12 division, the St. Francis Ashaiman club’s pride, Maxwell and Nhyira Antwi, shared first place after defeating Ernest Sarkodie Frimpong from Tema and Anna Nyarkoh from Winneba with the identical score of 4-2,4-1.
In the boys U-14 division, Jeff Frimpong of the Ghana Club was the standout performer, defeating Richmond Frimpong 4-2,4-1. In the girls U-14 division, Georgette Nortey also triumphed, defeating her Accra Stadium clubmate Phyllis Kotey in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
In the U-16 division, Accra Stadium club’s Daniel Adom lost against St. Francis Ashaiman’s Donatus Nyaaba 6-3, 6-2 to be declared the winner, identical to Winneba’s
Ayidaama Akaguri triumphed against her colleague Christabel Aduafo Collins 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Grace Naa Dromor Tetteh and Nhyira Antwi won the girls 10/12 doubles tournament by teaming up to defeat Anna Nyarkoh and Georgette Okyere 7-5.
With a score of 6-4, Ayidaana Akaguri and Sugru Akaguri defeated Christabel Aduafo Collins and Ewurama Mensah in the girls 14/16 doubles.
The boys 10/12 doubles category was won by the winning team of Solomon Dowuona and Ernest Sarkodie Frimpong, who defeated Jafter Dowuona and Stephen Boateng 6-3.
The boys 14/16 doubles event was won by Jeff Frimpong and Samuel Obido Aryeetey, who defeated Joseph Atitsogbe and Bryan Adama 7–5.
Speaking to the media, the tournament coordinator, Mr. Peter Annan, noted that the championship honouring the memory of the late G.T. Oddoye, which was sponsored by Akai House, was a success.

“The aim is not just to honour the memory of the late Oddoye but to see the abundance of talents and harness them to become world beaters,” Mr. Annan said.
