Ghanaian Tennis prodigy settles for second place in ITF J30 Tennis Tour Week 2.

Young Ghanaian Tennis talent, Raphael Nii Nortei Dowuona, was defeated by Nigerian star Prosper Ikenna Okonkwo in the finals of the ITF J30 Tennis Tour week two finals in Accra last Saturday.

The Nigerian dominated his Ghanaian opponent by winning the finals in straight sets at the National Tennis Center in Accra.

Okonkwo secured an easy 7-6 (3), 6-0 win over Dowuona on the day.

The number 4 seed, Duwuona won the week one final last week which the Nigerian tennis star had missed.

The young Nigerian had twice the joy as Okonkwo teamed up with Joseph Franklin Jimoh, who was defeated by Duwuona in last week’s final, to win the boys doubles event in week two of the competition.

“It’s just hard-work and patience, it will come sometimes, other times, it won’t work but you just have to keep pushing and believing in your self,” said Okonkwo after he was crowned week two champion.

Meanwhile, Team Ghana experienced some victory in the girls doubles division when Sisu-Makena Tomegah and Iriela Rajaobelina of Madagascar defeated Raja Sarvagnya Kilaru and Alisha Ndukwu of Great Britain 2-6, 6-3 (13-11) in the final.

ITF J30 Tennis Tour championship organised by Tennis Foundation Ghana under the leadership of Roger Crawford has competitors from over 40 nations and will run for six consecutive weeks.
